“Paywasta Reh Shajar Se” is an art project initiated on independent basis and voluntarily basis by artist and curator Mehreen Hashmi in 2012 after collaboration with different non-profit organizations of Karachi who are working particularly for children. The main idea and purpose behind this project was to introduce basic drawing and painting skills among these children who could not afford such luxuries which is their birth right. These children also learnt to express with colors during these art classes. By the end of these classes their work had been displayed in a local gallery and funds raised after selling their art pieces have been given to these children. These funds although were not much but have meant a treasure for them.
Mehreen Hashmi had been conducting these classes in different underprivileged areas of Karachi and producing work with these children with different level of awareness and backgrounds. Majority of these children have faced sexual physical abuse, drug addictions, poverty and other similar problems.
Alliance Francaise de Karachi has been a collaborator with this show and has shown generosity in giving their gallery space for exhibitions in 2013 and 2014 without any cost. This year in 2020, Club 432 has generously provided their space and resources to support the exhibit. Please visit the show on display from 10th November to 20th November, 2020, which is international children’s day.
